Doritos Los Tacos
Okay. Okay. I admit it. Despite living in South Texas, where arguably some of the most delicious and authentic Mexican tacos can be found, I still sometimes crave Taco Bell. There. I said it. I said it, and I meant it.
I can remember being in college, and not having much money. But my former partner and I would go to Taco Bell to get a briefcase of tacos that would feed both of us for multiple days. While I can do without the challenging financial times that was college, I can remember those tacos with some nostalgia.
More recently, I have grown to appreciate the Doritos Los Tacos. So I found a way to make them at home. It took some doing, but I managed to learn the secret to getting the crushed Doritos to stick to the taco shell. HINT: Use your favorite hot sauce to help the crushed Doritos stick to the shell.
Directions
Step 1 - Brown the ground beef. As it is cooking add your favorite seasoning.
Step 2 - While the ground beef is browning you will need to crush the Doritos to prepare the tortillas.
Step 3 - Melt a few teaspoons of butter. This could be more or less depending on how you want to balance the hot sauce you are using.
Step 4 - Mix your chosen hot sauce with the butter.
Step 5 - In two stations place one side of a tortilla in the butter and hot sauce mixture. Then press it into the crushed Doritos. Repeat for the number of tacos you are making.
Step 6 - Shape and bake the tortillas. You can use foil to help shape the soft tortillas to shape, and place them in a preheated 350 degree oven for 5-7 minutes. You are looking to get the shells to a crispier state while baking on the Dorito covering.
Step 7 - Assemble your tacos with toppings of your choice. Eat. And enjoy!
