Salt Lake City Area Travel Guide

In June 2019 we had a chance to visit the Salt Lake City area. I had a work conference to attend, but we managed to get in a couple of days before and after the conference for travel and local excursions. While time was a a little short, and we didn’t get to do, go, or try everything we wanted to, we still stumbled on some great activities and food. Check out some of our notes and recommendations!

EAT:

  • Freshies Lobster Company: 1897 Prospsector Ave Park City, UT 84060 – There are a couple of locations in the SLC area. While we were in Park City we tried the location there. The portion size in comparison to price was not exactly a highlight, but the food itself was fantastic.

Thai So Good

Thai So Good: 1764 Uinta Way Unit D-1, Park City, UT 84098 – Before testing whether or not our small, non Subaru car would make it up the mountain to the Deer Valley Chateaux we stopped for lunch. While we are (one of more than the other) adventurous with food finds in that we like to try the local fare, when it comes to Thai food we generally prefer a strong recommendation from someone else before we try a specific location. Without knowing anyone in the area, we turned to Yelp. And the folks reviewing Thai So Good on Yelp did not steer us wrong.

DRINK:

  • Black Rifle Coffee Company: 1144 500 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 – Black Rifle Coffee has been on our list of coffee to try for a little while now, but we were stoked when we accidently stumbled across this location when we were driving around SLC looking for a CrossFit gym. This particular location has a small store front, complete with a coffee bar. They have plenty of roasts to choose from depending on your coffee pallate. Be sure to give them a try. What an enjoyable treat and great find driving around SLC!

  • Wasatch Brew Pub: 250 Main St, Park City, UT 84060 – We had some time before we could check in at the Lodge, so we went to try beers – which were good. Be sure to check out the full brewery review in a separate blog post. But we also ate some awesome Kale and Asiago Cheese Dip while waiting and were not disappointed!

  • Red Rock Brewing Company: 1640 Redstone Center Dr, Park City, UT 84098 – The search for local brews continued with dinner and a couple of pints.

  • Level Crossing Brewing Company: 2496 S W Temple, South Salt Lake, UT 84115 – What a way to end our SLC trip. Level Crossing was our last stop for lunch before heading back to the airport to travel back to Texas. The beer was good, and the food was tasty. It was here (our last SLC destination stop) where we began to think about the week, and all we had a chance to see. Inevitably, we started to think about getting home, work, and the week ahead, and became a little sad that our SLC adventure was coming to an end.

STAY:

Over the course of the week we stayed at a few locations – two on our own, and at the conference hotel. Each location offered a different glimpse of the Park City community.

  • Sweetwater Lift Lodge Resort: 1255 Empire Ave, Park City, UT 84060 – Our room was huge! We had a kitchen, living area with a pull down murphy bed, and a bedroom with two double beds. This place would be great during ski season with your closest pals to check out the slopes! The rates were reasobable, but then again we were there during the off season.

  • The Chateaux Deer Valley: 7815 Royal St, Park City, UT 84060 – The Chateaux was the host hotel for my conference. While it was beautiful with views and comfortable rooms, had I not needed to be here for the conference we would not have likely opted to stay here. Even during the off season, it was pricy – but it sure was a gorgeous location!

  • Centrally Located PC AirBnB: Thanks to Mitchell & Winston for the great place to stay towards the end our our SLC area trip. Clean. Nice location to several ammenities. Good rates!

BE SURE TO:

The University of Utah

As higher education professionals one of our things we love to do whenever we travel is to walk around the local college/university from wherever we happen to be travelling. On this particular trip, we managed to get in two campus tours with the main take a way – we would be the most productive professionals if we worked on either of these campuses. The views were so incredible we would never want to leave!

The University of Utah was not to be outdone in terms of views by Weber State University!

Park Silly Sunday Market: What a Sunday find! When in PC fron June through September, be sure to check this out. I had vaguely remembered on my conference material that there was a Sunday Market to check out for those of us who happened to come in to town early. Once we got settled into our Lodge for the night, we hiked down to the Market and were not dissapointed with the experience.
